Two buildings under one contract
Precast concrete and structural steel package provided
Offers a design life in excess of 50 years
Structural frame supports secondary cladding system
These two buildings are being used by Stratford-upon-Avon Healthcare for the various facilities that it provides, including doctor and dental surgeries, an outpatient hospital, a renal unit and a café.
Composite’s structural frame design and build solution provides clear spans of up to 13.1m
and, therefore, future flexibility of the internal layout
. Both buildings comprise our precast concrete beam and column solution which, together with hollowcore floor units and screed, created the suspended first and second floor areas. We also provided the hot-rolled steelwork forming the mono-pitch roofs.
The precast concrete frame did not increase the building height
because it was designed with a non-structural screed, incorporating an underfloor heating system.
A variation in cladding finishes is a feature of the building and these are easily supported by our structural frame.
This is one of many contracts undertaken with BAM over recent years and came about as a result of our working with them in the development of an alternative frame design solution to that originally proposed. As well as offering a quality finish
, precast concrete provides BAM’s clients with a design life in excess of 50 years
.
With access being via one of Stratford-upon-Avon’s main town centre roads and a narrow road leading to an existing ‘live’ healthcare centre, our thorough pre-site planning enabled us to coordinate material deliveries on a ‘just-in-time’ basis
. This, together with our having fewer deliveries than more traditional forms of construction, meant that the potential for disruption to the activities of both the existing centre and the local community were kept to a minimum
.
A close working approach to the contract, with open ‘problem solving’ dialogue, meant that the excellent working relationship with BAM was maintained and it has resulted in other work
with them.
