Contract completed in 36 weeks
Composite designed and built this 364-space, five-storey car park at Coventry Station. We completed the construction in just 36 weeks
on site.
All work, from initial groundworks to completion handover, was undertaken within a very confined city centre site adjacent to the main West Coast railway line. We erected the precast concrete frame element in just 10 weeks.
We secured the contract, in competition, by showing that we not only understood the customer’s requirements but could illustrate effective and efficient ways in which to fulfil this. Of the options offered, it was agreed that a propped structural frame with an external two-way ramp configuration would provide the best solution in terms of customer use
for the predominately ‘tidal flow’ station car park.
By utilising our skills and expertise, we were able to fully encompass the aspirations of the client and his team at both design and construction stages.
The resultant efficient, safe and low maintenance building provides a quality facility for both Virgin Trains, Network Rail and their customers.
Our experience in the construction of challenging projects meant that we were able to complete the contract in accordance with Network Rail’s stringent safety and approval procedures.
These included for detailed method statements and supervision with respect to crane movements and lifting operations,
which we provided in conjunction with our company’s standard procedures.
The project is a good illustration of how Composite can provide a full design and build package
for this type of work on budget and programme. This allows our customers/clients to plan for the building’s use and fully realise its revenue opportunities.
